The Zero Friction Tees are made of corn-based plastic. Since corn is harvested every year, no more trees need to be felled, as would be the case with wooden tees. The corn is broken down into small pellets made of polylactide, which then serve as building blocks for the plastic of the tees.
In comparison, a white birch tree takes 60 to 70 years to grow, from which 40,000 wood teas could be produced. In the USA, 2.8 billion trees are cut down every year for these and similar purposes to obtain raw materials.
The Zero Friction Tees can be broken down and recycled better than conventional tees. Nevertheless, the tees are more durable and long-lasting because they do not break as quickly.
An average golfer uses about 7 wooden tees per 18 holes, while only one Zero Friction Tee is needed.
